Walking in The Spirit, in The Midst of Chaos

There is a spirit of chaos hovering over America at this time. The events of the last weeks have shown that boiling just beneath the surface there is a pain and hurt in the American people concerning our government. No matter the side of the aisle you land on, the events at the Capitol recently are confusing and troubling to the average person. The question in the face of all this is, “what do I do now?”

As followers of Christ, we should continue to walk in the Spirit. Two key factors are dependence and obedience, but these actions require trust in the One to whom we must depend on and obey. It is easy to look at what has happened and declare ourselves orphans. It would be easy to see the chaos raining down in the physical world and say we have been abandoned by our Heavenly Father. 2 Chronicles 16:9 reads: “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to him.”

God searches the whole earth and in the moments of our greatest weakness will show up and show off. When the children of Israel spent 40 years in the desert, God was with them the whole time. He was speaking through Moses and the other leaders (Aaron, Miriam and the judges of Ex 18) to the twelve tribes the entire 40 years.

When Israel was scattered across the lands, he brought Nehemiah to rebuild the city walls and restore the nation even when the whole world was telling them it was impossible. When Paul was in jail for preaching the Gospel, Paul did not consider himself abandoned by his Heavenly Father, in fact, the Lord encouraged him to preach all the more.

It is easy to walk the path in the midst of a spring day, when the weather is clear, and the sun shines bright in the sky. But when the winds of adversity come; when the nation itself is so far out of control that we do not know where to look, there is only one place we can look. We must look to the Cross of Christ, with His arms stretched wide open. We will have trouble in this life but be encouraged brothers and sisters that in our darkest moments, God is right there by our side. He is watching over us, protecting us and is ready to show off at a moment’s notice.
