Session Teachings
God’s Word, His character, His will and ways are so amazing how will we ever be able to fully understand them? Praise the Lord it is a journey These Session teachings can be a part of that journey revealing how we can become more like our Father, removing obstacles on our the way to that goal.
The Session teachings are presented in the following format:
• The Introduction: Each teaching begins with a beautiful outdoor
illustration of the spiritual principle to follow.
• Small Group Session: The teaching is presented in a small group setting
and answers three basic questions about the Session’s foundational
truth...What is it? Why do it? and How do we do it?
• Putting it into Practice: Includes encouragement to not just hear the
Word but do it!
• A word from Dr. Jack Hayford: Provides wise counsel and
encouragement for establishing the Discipleship Assignments for that
Session.
Session One: Walk in the Spirit
Taught by: Pastor Chris Hayward
Praise the Lord it is a journey! In this Session the Lord is calling us to “Walk in the Spirit.” For some it will be another step in a journey began long ago, for others it will be the beginning. Whichever it is, the Lord desires to walk with us.
What does it mean to Walk in the Spirit?
It means to walk spiritually with purpose, balance, observation and action. Keeping your eyes on Jesus and winning the tug of war to be led by the Holy Spirit rather than allowing our souls to rule over our choices and decisions. Walking in the Spirit is the process of our souls learning to relinquish control and let God take charge of our lives. Always remember, we are His work in process!
Also included:
• Why Walk in the Spirit?
• How do you Walk in the Spirit?
Session Two: Commit Everything to God
Taught by: Pastor Raymond Pettitt
In this Session the call is to “Commit Everything to God.” He is trustworthy! But He calls us beyond just relationship with Him... into relationship with others.
What does it mean to Commit Everything to God?
Commitment involves trusting—trusting the One who has proven Himself to be trustworthy. And placing in His hands anything that would distract, be an obstacle or be used to assault our souls on our path as we walk in the Spirit. Everything we are and everything we have belong to Him anyway—we are just putting them back in their rightful place and adjusting our perspective!
Also included:
• Why Commit Everything to God?
• How do you Commit Everything to God?
Session Three: Speak Words of Life
Taught by: Pastor Chris Hayward
In this Session the Lord is calling us to “Speak Words of Life”—planting good seed into our own soil (our souls) and into that of others. (The disciplines implemented provide several great ways to do just that!)
What does it mean to Speak Words of Life?
Words are like seeds that when spoken are sown into our lives or others. We have a choice—we do not have to receive every word, we do not have to retain every word received, BUT if we receive and if we retain, the words will reproduce.
Also included:
• Why Speak Words of Life?
• How do you Speak Words of Life?
Session Four: Enter the Cleansing Stream
Taught by: Pastor Raymond Pettitt
In this Session the Lord is calling us to “Enter the Cleansing Stream.” As we do this we become aware that there is a battle going on. It isn’t just what we see—it’s deeper. The real battle is behind the scenes, in the heavenly places! Although the outcome has already been determined, through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we still have a part to play. (When we accept the disciplines of wearing the armor received from the Lord and of fasting—we are equipped for battle!)
What does it mean to Enter the Cleansing Stream?
It is our choice—we enter. It is God’s choice—He provides cleansing. We believe, He acts. We surrender, He restores.
Also included:
• Why Enter the Cleansing Stream?
• How do you Enter the Cleansing Stream?
Session Five: Press Towards the Goal
Taught by: Bishop Joseph Garlington
In this Session the Lord is calling us to continue the journey...to “Press Toward the Goal.” When we receive cleansing and welcome the Lord in a greater dimension into our lives...we also need to look to our houses. Putting them in order by removing anything that does not bring glory to God, AND setting our homes apart for Him—inviting His presence in a fresh way. I guess you could call it “Cleansing and covering” our homes.
What does it mean to Press Toward the Goal?
To diligently pursue Jesus and His call.
Also included:
• Why Press Toward the Goal?
• How do you Press Toward the Goal?
